This year we spent Thanksgiving with Dave's family in Colorado. It was our first plane trip with the kids and I was really nervous about it. Well, let me back up. We flew out on Tuesday and the Sunday before Addie had the flu. She was so sick and we even debated on whether or not we should go. But it seemed like by Tuesday she was a little better, so we decided to give it a shot. The flight there was fine. Both kids slept on our laps and everyone kept telling us how good they were. So, getting off the plane Dave and I felt pretty good about everything. That was were the fun ended!!!
Dave's parents, Frank and Jan, picked us up from the airport and on the drive to their house, Dave had his dad pull over cause he was going to get sick. Right after we get back on the road I notice a smell that is all too familiar. I realized that Addie had blown out of her outfit. It was everywhere!!! And the only place we could find to clean her up was in a gas station bathroom. There I am in this gross bathroom, trying not to touch anything, holding my screaming baby covered in poop, kicking the faucet on with my foot. Lots of fun!
By the time we made it to their house, Dave is really sick. And by 9:00 that night, I have the flu. So, Dave and I are up all night sharing the same bathroom. We spent the whole next day sleeping. Frank and Jan were nice enough to take care of the kids for us. But, unfortunately by Thanksgiving day both of them had caught the bug from us. The week was topped off with Ethan finally getting sick the day before we had to fly home. Then there was the flight home! The kids were NOT as good as they had been on the first flight...which is understandable since they didn't feel good.
But, even though the flights were tough and everyone got sick, we still managed to have a good time. We still enjoyed a nice Thanksgiving dinner and spent lots of time hanging out and visiting. Dave's brother, Mike, and his kids, Tatiana and Kyle, came down too which was fun.
I have always heard how traveling with kids is hard, but I really had no idea. Until now!!! It was a worth it to see family, but next time let's hope for a better trip.
The kids loved playing with their cousins.
Frank and Jan have a beautiful back deck, so we spent some time hanging out outside.

YAY! Pictures of the kids! They are getting so big--and we are missing it! Welcome to the exciting world of traveling with kids. I would have paid MONEY to watch you change Addy in that gas station bathroom. I was just remembering the time you and Jim cleaned the dog barf out of our van and both of you gagged the whole time. Good times!
Thanks for the Christmas card. Eliza immediately stole it and has it up in her room. Miss you guys!
We'd love to have you here for Lydia's baptism, but you will be met with SERIOUS attitude from my girls if you don't bring the babies. And they're getting pretty good at the attitude thing these days. We'd love to have you here.
